Iran news in brief, June 25, 2019 US Slaps New Sanctions on Iranian Regime's Supreme Leader Khamenei The United States imposed sanctions Monday on the Iranian regime's supreme leader Ali Khamenei and a string of military chiefs, tightening pressure on the regime. Trump signed the punitive financial measures in the Oval Office, calling it a "strong and proportionate response to Iran's increasingly provocative actions." Repeating that "never can Iran have a nuclear weapon," Trump said it was now up to Tehran to negotiate. Expanding on the new measures, the Treasury said the United States will blacklist the Iranian regime's Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif and block "billions" more in Iranian regime assets, with eight top commanders from the regime's Revolutionary Guards already added to the list. Anti-riot forces were sent in to quell the unrest. They beat up protesters and fired shots into the air to frighten them away. Iranian Regime to Face 'Strong Response' If It Closes Strait of Hormuz The Iranian regime would face a “very, very strong” response if it closed the vital Strait of Hormuz, Saudi Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Adel Al Jubeir said on Thursday. The person’s face was covered as the punishment was carried out on Monday. Separately on Wednesday, the Iranian regime sentenced a young man in Tehran to 99 lashes and 15 years’ imprisonment. Woman Executed in Iranian Prison A woman by the name of Fatemeh Nassiri and a man were executed Wednesday morning, June 19 in Gohardasht Prison in the Iranian city of Karaj. Fatemeh Nassiri had been transferred from Qarchak Prison to Gohardasht for the sentence to be carried out. She had been in jail since 11 years ago when she undertook the responsibility of a murder committed by her son. Fatemeh Nassiri is the 89th woman hanged during Rouhani’s term in office. The state-run Fars News Agency quoted the regime’s top judiciary official in Hormozgan Province as saying the trio were hanged in the city’s prison. The victims’ names were not given. Iran is the world’s number one executioner per capita. Iranian Pensioners and Hospital Employees Hold Protests Iranian pensioners gathered on Tuesday outside the Parliament in Tehran to protest their inadequate pensions. The pensioners said that the managers of their Fund make excuses not to implement the law and increase their pension. The protesters were heard chanting: “Pensioners would die rather than accept abjection” and “We’re all together and fed up of empty promises.” In May, retirees including government workers and teachers held three protests.
