Yes, the Iran regime has a viable alternative

Yes, the Iran regime has a viable alternative By Tom Ridge  Over the years, it has been my privilege to meet with Iranians whose spouses, children and friends are among the 120,000 executed since the mullahs took over the great country of Iran, whose culture is one of the world’s most sophisticated, its population one of the most literate and one of the youngest. Yet they remain under the thumb of what some in Washington still refer to as a “moderate” regime. I have been asked about the regime’s alleged moderation. Let’s look at Iranian elections in contrast to the Democratic candidacies this year, or the Republican primary last time around dozens of candidates. They don’t do that under the moderate regime in Iran. Everyone is vetted, and unless you are approved by the mullahs you can’t be a candidate. How about our First Amendment? We have more than 100 networks and television stations, free to roam, and newspapers everywhere. Freedom of press in Iran? Are t...
OPINION: AFTER 40 YEARS, IRAN IS NO  CLOSER TO ‘MODERATION’ Lord Anthony Clarke | Former Chairman, U.K. Labour Party In February 1979, the people of Iran threw off the rule of one dictator, only to watch as religious extremists installed another. Ayatollah Khomeini’s rise to power had far-reaching consequences for the Iranian people and for much of the world. The 40th anniversary of the Iranian Revolution represents an important opportunity to examine those consequences and reassess collective approaches to dealing with the regime and helping its people. In recent years, there has been talk of a trend toward “moderation” among Iran’s leadership. But even more recently, the Trump administration has turned sharply away from the former praise of Rouhani and his associates. Last May, the United States withdrew from the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA). Despite the International Atomic Energy Agency saying Iran was generally in compliance with it...

The Iranian regime, in a whirlpool of collapse

The Iranian regime, in a whirlpool of collapse   Jan. 2, 2019 - In a recent interview with the Mostaghel newspaper, Faezeh Hashemi, daughter of the infamous Ali Akbar Hashemi Rafsanjani, one of the founders of Islamic Republic, talked about Hassan Rouhani’s defeat and  the collapse of the Iranian regime . Hashemi’s statements were widely republished by media outlets affiliated with the so-called reformist faction of the Iranian regime, and pundits and personalities of this faction generally confirmed it. “The collapse of legitimacy has already happened, and only a physical collapse has not happened, and chances are high that this happens,” Hashemi said in her interview. “Mr. Rouhani talks as if he isn’t the president. Parts of these [matters] are in the jurisdiction of the government. He talks as if he is the opposition. You should be able to act! Who are you criticizing?” she said about the Iranian regime’s president’s lack of action and his compre...

A Valid Alternative to the Current Regime in Iran

A Valid Alternative to the Current Regime in Iran By: Giulio Terzi former foreign affairs minister of Italy The national uprising of the last twelve months in Iran has launched a clear and unequivocal political message, leaving no doubt about the real desire of the people for a regime change. In response, regime officials at the highest levels, including supreme leader Ali Khamenei, have shown themselves to be particularly quick in attributing slogans such as "death to the dictator" and organizing of the revolt to the PMOI / MEK Movement, which has always been at the forefront to end the theocratic regime, its oppressive controls and violent repressions - implemented by the Iranian security and intelligence apparatus - and the immediate release of all political prisoners and for an Iran that fully respects its international obligations and rule of law. In this regard, it is important to underline how the political platform of the National Council of Resi...
