U.S. Designates Iran Regime's Revolutionary Guards as
Terrorist Organization
The United States designated Iran Regime's Revolutionary
Guard Corps a foreign terrorist organization, President Donald Trump said on
April 8.
Washington will continue to increase financial pressure and
raise the costs on Iran "for its support of terrorist activity,"
Trump said in a statement.
The United States has already blacklisted tens of entities
and people for affiliations with the IRGC, but not the organization as a whole.
Trump said: "This designation will be the first time
that the United States has ever named a part of another government as an
FTO,".
"It underscores the fact that Iran’s actions are
fundamentally different from those of other governments."
Maryam Rajavi: Terrorist Designation of IRGC Is Imperative
for Regional Peace and Stability
Mrs. Maryam Rajavi, the President-elect of the National
Council of Resistance of Iran, described the inclusion of the suppressive
Revolutionary Guards in the State Department’s list of Foreign Terrorist
Organizations as a long-standing and righteous demand of the Iranian
Resistance, an imperative for Middle East security, peace, and stability, and
an urgent and necessary step to end war and terrorism throughout the region and
the world.
Pompeo Warns All Banks, Businesses to End Dealings With the
IRGC
Pompeo warns all banks, businesses to end dealings with the
IRGC
US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo on Monday warned all banks
and businesses against dealing with Iran's Revolutionary Guards after
Washington designated the group as a terrorist organization.
During the press conference, Pompeo said the designation
would come into effect in one week.
'No Commercial Reason' for Iran's Mahan Air Flights to
Venezuela: White House Official
A White House official said on Monday: The United States
views private Iranian airline Mahan Air’s launch of a direct flight from Tehran
to Caracas as a “politically motivated gesture” with “no commercial reason,”.
A White House official said, speaking on condition of
anonymity: “From our standpoint, there’s clearly no commercial reason to
establish this flight at this time,”.
The official said: “This is a politically motivated gesture
that is unhelpful to the Venezuelan people because it doesn’t accelerate the
change that we’re looking for,”.
Iranian Currency Drops 7.5 Percent After U.S. Designates
Guards as Terror Organization
Reports from Iran indicate that in the wake of the U.S.
decision to designate the Islamic Revolution Guard Corps as a foreign terror
organization the Iranian currency took a nosedive at the end of the trading day
on Monday.
The rial fell 7.5 percent to 144,000 rials to the dollar. On
Sunday, April 7 the Iranian currency was trading at 134,000 to the dollar.
The head of Iran Regime’s central bank on Sunday tried to
talk up the rial, anticipating the U.S. announcement, but it did not help on
Monday once Washington designated the IRGC as a terrorist organization.
The IRGC controls a large share of the economy in the country
and a tight economic noose around its business interests and a bigger chance of
military escalation creates uncertainty for businesses and the people in Iran.
