WHO IS MARYAM RAJAVI? PART THREE
Maryam Rajavi, the leader of the Iranian Resistance, is a
well-known figure amongst Iranians, the Iranian diaspora, and international
politicians.
Sadly, many others don’t know her story or what she stands
for. Even more upsetting, some are swayed by the lies of the Iranian Regime
about Maryam Rajavi and her movement. That is why we’re here to set the record
straight with this short series on Maryam Rajavi’s life, achievements, and
goals.
In our previous parts, we have discussed her early life, how
she became involved with the Iranian Resistance, her ascendency to the
presidency, and an overview of her values. Here, we will talk about Maryam
Rajavi’s advocacy for the Iranian Resistance.
Maryam Rajavi is the face of a global movement to bring
freedom and democracy to Iran and has attracted hundreds of the most celebrated
political and social personalities, including former US government officials,
decorated military officers, and parliamentarians the world over.
Maryam Rajavi has brought significant victories to the
Iranian Resistance in the past 25 years and now we will look at some of them.
International Campaign to Delist the MEK
Iranian Resistance group, the MEK, were wrongly placed on the
terrorist watch lists in a misguided attempt to appease the Regime. Maryam
Rajavi led a successful campaign to get the MEK removed from the lists of the
UK (2008), European Union (2009), and the US (2012).
International Campaign in Defense of Resistance Members in
Ashraf and Liberty
The US transferred the protection and security of over 3,000
Iranian Resistance members in Camp Ashraf to the Iraqi government in 2009, but
the Iranian Regime attacked the camp on several occasions, sometimes using
missiles or rockets, killing at least 100 and injuring thousands.
Maryam Rajavi led an international campaign to support the
Resistance members at Ashraf and those who’d moved to Camp Liberty, gaining the
support of thousands of parliamentarians around the world. This led to the
adoption of a 2016 resolution in the US Congress calling for the provision of
security for the residents of Camp Liberty. Eventually, in 2016, this led to
the safe relocation from Iraq to Albania and other European countries of all
MEK members.
Movement calling for justice for victims of the 1988 massacre
Also, in 2016, Maryam Rajavi announced that she was launching
a justice-seeking movement for victims of the 1988 massacre in Iran. The
movement demanded that all masterminds and perpetrators of the massacre of
30,000 political prisoners be prosecuted and that all victims have their names
and burial sites published.
Maryam Rajavi’s Call for Justice grew rapidly, more than 25
years after the massacre occurred, and it became a top issue in Iran. The
families of martyrs embraced the call and began to publish the names of the
victims and any documents they had. It even got Regime leaders to break their
long silence and admit to their role in this crime against humanity.
The Iranian Resistance held numerous meetings across the
globe to increase condemnations of this horrible crime against humanity and
calls for prosecution of those responsible for the massacre.
Maryam Rajavi has changed the face of the Iranian Resistance
and will define it until the mullahs fall.
