In the beginning of this year, the country was rocked by a mass uprising. The chain of protests was a major step forward for the domestic Resistance movement in the sense that it extracted political activism from farmers and the rural poor, despite the fact that these groups had long been thought to tolerate or even support the clerical regime. Iran news in brief, February 1, 2018 1- Facebook, Twitter take down disinformation campaigns linked to Iran Facebook says it has removed almost 800 “coordinated, inauthentic” pages, groups, and accounts directed from Iran that were part of a manipulation campaign operating in more than 20 countries. The world's biggest social network said on January 31 it coordinated closely with Twitter to discover the accounts, which exhibited “malicious-looking indicators.” The pages, 783 in total, were part of a campaign to promote Iranian interests abroad by creating fake identities as residents of those nations, Nathaniel Gleicher, head of cybersecurity policy at Facebook, said in a statement.
